Horowitz Legendary 1965 Recital Sounds Better than Ever in Spatial

Vladimir Horowitz's legendary 1965 recital in his historic return to Carnegie Hall sound better than ever in Spatial Audio.

Why Listen

I’m glad that several major labels, including Sony Classical, have been quietly plugging away at revitalizing their back catalogues in surround sound and Dolby Atmos. This one sounds surprisingly great, and it brings new life to an iconic recording that belongs in every music lover's library.

While I’ve been listening enthusiastically to Yevgeny Sudbin’s outstanding new album of Scriabin, I’ve also looked back and re-listened to some of the great Scriabin recordings of all time. When it came to the iconic Horowitz 1965 “Return to Carnegie Hall” live concert, I was surprised and delighted to find that Sony has recently remastered this historical treasure in Spatial Audio. It’s a pity it’s a digital-only release, a deluxe Bluray Audio package would be most welcome!

Choice tracks you really don’t want to miss:

Scriabin Sonata No.9 (“Black Mass”)
Chopin Ballade No.1 in G Minor, Op. 23
I’m glad that several major classical labels (including Decca and Deutsche Grammophon, as well as Sony) have been quietly plugging away at this project of revitalizing their back catalogues in surround sound… though it has to be said, with mixed results. Horowitz 1965 at Carnegie Hall, however, is an unqualified success. If you didn’t already have enough motivation to upgrade your streaming service to Atmos-enabled, here’s another!
