Duo Dorado — Spice of Italy (Chandos, 2026). Duo Dorado is baroque violinist Hazel Brooks and harpsichordist David Pollock. Here they explore the music of Nicola Matteis and his son, Italian émigrés who helped transform violin playing in late 17th-century England. Selections from Matteis senior’s Ayres for the Violin, including La Folia variations and a Scotch Humour ground, lead to two sonatas by the younger Matteis.
Malin Broman (vl, vla), Swedish Radio Symphony, Alan Gilbert (cond.), Kungsbacka Piano Trio — Daniel Börtz: Double Concerto for One (BIS Records, 2026). Swedish composer Daniel Börtz gives the concerto an ingenious twist: Double Concerto for One asks a single soloist, Malin Broman, to alternate between violin and viola, with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Alan Gilbert. With Börtz’s Sinfonia No. 14 and Piano Trio included, this is a strong survey of the Swedish composer’s work.
Pekka Kuusisto (cond.), Brad Lubman (cond.), Gothenburg Symphony — Lost Landscapes (Alpha Classics, 2026). Three recent works by Swedish composer Anders Hillborg, showcasing his gift for orchestral colour that seems almost electronically generated. Pekka Kuusisto conducts the shimmering Through Lost Landscapes and the four-movement Strand Settings. Brad Lubman takes over for Sound Atlas.

Daniel Börtz: Double Concerto for One (2019/20)
First, check out the world premiere recording of Börtz’s Concerto for One (not commercially released). Broman is the soloist (same as this week’s BIS release), but with the Norrköpings Symphony, Simon Crawford-Phillips conducting, in May 2023.
