William Brimble (piano) — Inherited Pieces (EP) (MÔR, 2026). Mildly charming little piano pieces, recorded in the irritatingly perverse lo-fi, microphone-stuck-inside-an-upright manner that is the passing fad of our decade. Not my cup of tea, but it may be yours.

Eleonora Buratto, Freddie De Tommaso, Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali & Vincenzo Milletarì — Giordano: Marina (Decca Classics, 2026). We know Giordano primarily for the grand historical sweep of Andrea Chénier. But this rarity is his first opera, a raw, compact one-act tragedy, written for the 1888 competition that was won by Cavalleria rusticana (!). Recorded at Milan’s Teatro Dal Verme in February 2026, with Eleonora Buratto in the title-role and Freddie De Tommaso as the enemy fugitive who captures her heart. New opera recordings in spatial audio are hard to find, so be sure to check this one out.
St Albans Cathedral Choir, Andrew Lucas — Philip Moore: Cathedral Music (First Hand Records, 2026). This is a substantial survey of Philip Moore’s choral and organ music, including several works composed specifically for St Albans Cathedral Choir. Andrew Lucas directs a colourful programme enhanced by organ, brass and percussion. Six works are receiving their first recordings, including Tom Winpenny performing Moore’s Dialogues for Organ.
