While I’ve been listening enthusiastically to Yevgeny Sudbin’s outstanding new album of Scriabin, I’ve also looked back and re-listened to some of the great Scriabin recordings of all time. When it came to the iconic Horowitz 1965 “Return to Carnegie Hall” live concert, I was surprised and delighted to find that Sony has recently remastered this historical treasure in Spatial Audio.

I’m glad that several major classical labels (including Decca and Deutsche Grammophon, as well as Sony) have been quietly plugging away at this project of revitalizing their back catalogues in surround sound… though it has to be said, with mixed results.
